Job Description: Software Engineer, Information Systems (Staff Associate) Professional Non-Unit Position
Responsible for supporting the integration and coordination of Internet/web related services and functionality into the overall computing fabric of the college site including but not limited to: Campus Portal. Administrative systems, External reporting systems, Library systems, Academic/distance learning systems, Student, faculty, staff and alumni "portal" systems, mobile technologies, and the colleges Web presence. Work with Internet Architect/Sr. Web Developer to assess proposed technology projects for web services, integration, ERP upgrades, etc. and recommend appropriate solutions. Analyzes user requirements, procedures and problems to automate processing or to improve existing computer system(s). Responsible for activities related to the administration and development of the college portal, learning management system, Google Apps, college Intranet, and other servers and services that are integrated into this environment.
DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
Coordinate with and assist Information Systems Programming and Development staff on projects requiring integration or backend database support. Create and maintain user, technical and operational documentation that describes program code, logic, changes and corrections. Maintain, enhance and develop software integration linkages to disparate college systems including the college portal, learning management system, mobile technologies and other third party vendor supplied products. Upgrade software and perform patching for systems as required. Analyze business requirements and develop system requirement specifications. Create work effort estimates which will be used as a primary input to develop project schedule and responsibility breakdowns. Convert business and system requirements into detailed system design and technical specifications. Convert system designs and technical specifications into program code. Develop various implementation plans, i.e., quality assurance, training, documentation, transition, release, software build, as required by the established software development methodology. Work on all phases of the development process, including requirements gathering, design, development, testing and implementation. Integrate and or develop processes to interface external applications into the College systems to meet reporting and analytical requirements. Provide technical support, consultation and training to functional staff on the appropriate use of programs and systems. Analyze and troubleshoot existing program code and correct errors as required. Run quality assurance tests to find errors and confirm that programs meet business requirements, system designs, and technical specifications. Install software releases as established by software build and release plans either remotely or at customer sites. Assists Information Systems staff in resolution of work problems related to project specifications or programming. Other duties as assigned. SUPERVISION RECEIVED: Reports to the Internet Architect / Sr. Web Developer
Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or related field and a minimum of 2-3 years' experience using Java and web based application development, or equivalent combination of education & experience. Master's degree preferred.
Strong knowledge of Internet server technologies including, but not limited to HTTP/Web, FTP, Messaging (SMTP/POP3/IMAP), and security.
Demonstrated experience with database technologies like Oracle, MySQL.
Knowledge of server setup including web and application servers.
Multiple OS and related experiences including, Linux, Windows Server, MySQL and SQL Server. Knowledge of security vulnerabilities and resolutions not limited OWASP top ten. Higher education work experience and knowledge of SCT Banner is highly desirable. Preferred experience working with CAS and its integrated components such as LDAP, Active Directory, etc. Must possess strong analytical skills. Ability to work independently when performing analytical and programming tasks such as, design, code, document, and troubleshoot software. Ability to prioritize multiple responsibilities and work effectively with other members of the technical team(s). Must possess leadership and decision making skills to plan all elements of a software development project, assign tasks to project members, and manage the overall project. Must possess strong communication skills, both written and oral and demonstrate the interpersonal skills needed in an organization, balancing independence and collaboration effectively. Candidate must be innovative, creative, focused on the customer and follow-through with customer needs/requirements. Candidates will be required to pass a CORI/SORI background check as a condition of employment. Successful experience working with culturally diverse populations.
SALARY: $75,000 to $85,000 per year plus fringe benefits. Salary commensurate with education and experience.
